Admittedly, a lot of us don’t really know two things about certain games. There so many MMOs out in the market right now that even the relatively mainstream titles get pushed back along the sidelines. IMVU is one of those games as it is an oddly good social game akin to Second Life and Habbo.
IMVU, Inc., is, as was said earlier, a game based on social interaction. A metaverse on its own, users of this cyberspace create 3D avatars to meet people, share media, create more media, and play mini-games. It’s a virtual party, so to speak.
IMVU Credits: Not Your Average Social Game
You might be inclined to think that a game like this sucks and isn’t too successful or as well known as Second Life or Habbo, but you’d be mistaken because IMVU actually has over 3 million active users and has the largest virtual goods catalog in any game. Ever. Spend either IMVU credits or real money, this catalog contains millions of items that range from silly hats to absurdly large structures.
In case you were wondering, IMVU doesn’t really stand for anything. It is neither initialism nor is it an acronym. I guess it may have been a strategic naming scheme on the part of the developers because it just sounds so classy for some reason. Eeem-Vooo. That’s how it is pronounced apparently.
IMVU contains its own economy with a currency system based on IMVU credits and promo credits. A third form of currency also exists for creators, known as “developer tokens”, which are earned when a user purchases an item with “promo-credits”.Players can buy IMVU credits directly from the developer or from third party sites through coupons or certificates. It is notable that cheap IMVU credits can be purchased from third party sites rather than from the main site.
IMVU Credits: Purchasing is a Way of Life
These IMVU credits are then used to buy IMVU items like fashion pieces (hair, clothes, skins, and accessories), pets, and 3D scenes such as homes, clubs and open landscapes. Furniture can also be purchased the same way and placed into unlocked rooms, but there are also rooms that have some furniture included in them as well as locked rooms that include furniture that cannot be removed.
IMVU is an interesting social game that is sure to attract the aesthetic senses of the discerning aficionado of this MMO sub-type. It’s a great place to meet lots of people and even make a couple of real life friends.
